The San Francisco Bay Area Regional Center operates via a US federal program that helps to bring in foreign direct investment called the EB-5 Investment Immigration program. The intent of the EB-5 is to encourage the flow of capital into the U.S. economy and to promote employment of U.S. workers. It is estimated that in 2012 over $2 billion of foreign direct investment dollars were raised through the EB-5 program.
